Recommendation of The Month

I've always prided myself in having an extremely diverse music taste. I'm so proud of it  because it's not an easy job at all. I have to constantly listen to new artists and try to find different genres from different eras, it's a really big hassle. Because it's so hectic constantly searching for my new favorite artist, sometimes a gem will slip right past me. This happens to me often enough where I can do consistent segment about it, I was going to make it weekly but that's entirely to much writing so I've decided to make it monthly. Blood by This Mortal Coil is this month's gem.

This album is so cool because I've never heard anything like it. This Mortal Coil was started in 1980 by the founder of 4 AD Records. 4 AD happens to be an extremely successful indie label now, putting out the likes of SpaceghostPurrp, St. Vincent, Purity Ring, and many other successful acts. The album is the collective's final and most experimental release. I love music that you can't exactly pin a genre to and this is literally the definition of that. On the opening track there's a lot of Soundscape synths going on which automatically gives the song a surreal ambient vibe. Then it transitions to an absolutely heavenly voice, it's not something that you can describe. Her voice is filled raw emotion, which emotion you're not exactly sure but you know she put her all into that song when she recorded it. The weirdly ambient, depressing, heavenly vibe continues throughout the album. Perhaps the most beautiful thing about the album is that no two songs sound the same, but all of the songs seem to run toheter for some reason. It truly is a masterpiece, and that's an extremely rare word for me to use when describing music. The sad thing about this post is that everything I'm saying is a major understatement. It's one of those albums where people can rave to you about it, but you won't get the full impact until you listen to it for yourself. Basically this is pretty much a perfect album based on uniqueness. Even though as a band they did a lot of covers, they always revamped them and changed them so much you couldn't tell. But check out this album I promise it'll be one of the best musical decisions you'll make ever. - L$G
